Chicago Public Schools will be closed on Monday January 27, 2014 due to Arctic temperatures. Other closings announced for Monday include all campuses of Aurora University, the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, the Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium and all Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago. A complete list of school closings is available here.
The Brookfield Zoo is scheduled to remain open on Monday, but many animals will be kept inside.
The snow Chicago picked up this Sunday morning made this month the city’s third snowiest January on record with a total of 32.5 inches, according to Tom Skilling on his Facebook page.
This is the second Arctic blast to come rolling through Chicago this month, so you should know the drill, but here’s a reminder:
- Stay inside and stay warm.
- If you must go out, bundle up. Limit how much skin you leave exposed to the elements.
- Check in on your neighbors, especially if they are elderly or ill.
- Shovel your sidewalks and use animal-friendly salt.
- Don’t let your animals outside for too long or left unattended for any length of time.
- If you order food delivery, tip generously.
- Generally be a good person and you’ll feel warm even in these frigid conditions.
